Nearhire Training to be offered in Cebu this 2012

Because of promising developments in BPO Philippines, extensive employment is anticipated through a 35 percent increase in the working population in metro Cebu's BPO industry, strengthening the city's bid to be the BPO capital in the Philippines.

Not only the ideal destination for voice services, Cebu can be the next-wave city for knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), information technology outsourcing and other non-voice services.

By increasing the supply of talented, intelligent, creative and highly certified professionals, Cebu can reach a higher level of economic and business value.

Cebu’s has a huge prospect in higher level services or KPO. India has higher revenues than the Philippines because they do difficult services, such as research and development, legal and financial consultations. When the Philippines will capitalize on its KPO potential, the revenues will grow eventually.

Although, the human resources requirement for KPO may not be as high as voice-related jobs, these high-value services mean higher average compensation for the Filipino talent.

Cebu's private sector, academe and local government are currently collaborating to develop the skills of potential workers for increased manpower pool via proficiency/certification, re-training and jobs-skills matching programs.

To upscale talent for the workforce demand are two-fold: available quantity and sufficient training to match the skills required by companies.

The Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDFIT) announced it will receive a portion of the PhP500-million stimulus fund committed by the Philippine government to facilitate "near-hire" training programs of IT-BPO companies.

Near-hire training is where job applicants whose skills and English communication proficiency is close to acceptable and then provide them with further training that will quickly increase their skill proficiency up to the required level.

There's also PhP5 million worth of scholarships from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to conduct "near-hire" trainings for 1,000 prospective IT-BPO employees in Cebu.

Progress in BPO Philippines is powered by the people!
