Beat the 3 PM Zzz Habit

By three o' clock in the afternoon, work in the office becomes difficult as our energy and focus weaken. Our whole body slows down, triggering the need to take a nap.


And the need is stronger if you slept late last night and had to still wake up early to beat the morning traffic commuting to work in BPO Philippines.

Though sometimes the best way to deal with the temptation to sleep/nap is just to give in for a set of ten minutes, most office environments tend to not support that.

Most of us turn to caffeinated beverages like coffee or soda, turn to smoking for the nicotine fix or eat copious amounts of chocolate or candy for the energy burst. But the price we pay for the sudden burst of energy is heavy, literally. We gain a few pounds in the process and feel more sleepy at the end.

There are more healthy ways to re-energize to see the work day through and complete the day's tasks so that when you get home, all you have to look to are your much deserved rest and relaxation.


MOVE

Simply standing up from your chair, walking around the office can help you experience a change in energy level that can perk you up.

Schedule your physically active/manual tasks in the afternoon for that time of day, so that instead of staying around at your workstation, you can move around the office or outside and still get work done at the same time.

You can still do energy-raising motion while sitting at your desk: stretch your hands straight up, wave your hands fast while breathing and exhaling quickly.

BITE RIGHT

Eating snacks is a good way to boost low energy in your body, just make sure you eat the right kind of snacks.

Dried or fresh fruits or vegetables (in sticks or salads) with their simple sugars are ideal. Try also a sandwich or crackers lightly flavored with cheese, or lean ham or just plain peanut butter.

SOCIALIZE 

Sometimes, just getting up to go and chat with co-workers about their day can help wave the sleepy feeling away.

When the chat leads to smiles and laughter, the better because the feeling of well-being is brought on by a mild internal dose of adrenalin, which boost energy naturally.
