10 Ways to Ace Job Interviews

You just received a phone call from a perfectly-accented voice informing you that you have a job interview set three days from now for a company you applied weeks past, a company you're so eager to work for, which could build you a promising career in BPO Philippines and fast-track yourself to a bright, financially independent future.

Next comes that dreadful feeling in the pit of your stomach. Concern passes cold in your mind. How to best prepare, to win the position that could be the start of your plans? Don't be afraid, take a deep breath and read the following tips that can make sure you make a good impression and ace the job interview.

#1 Know the Company. First, research the company that you've applied for and is about to interview you.  Know and understand what the company's business is, the company mission and vision, the company's history, major recent events, and relevant information.

By knowing about the company, you show an conscious interest, which interviewers are keen on.

If you can get a chance to, try to find out more about who will be interviewing you. By knowing who's who in the company, any professional accomplishments or personal interest they have (which you may have something in common) , you can express appreciation of such persons.

This shows you are not only interested in working in the company but also working with its employees.

#2 Review Your Resume. Look over your resume to make sure you put everything that best highlights your skills, achievements and how these relate to the job you are applying for.

Be prepared by knowing what to talk about regarding how you can be a valuable asset to the company's workforce.

#3 Call to Confirm. The day before your interview, call the company back regarding your interview to confirm the date and time. With a prompt "I would like to confirm our 3pm interview time, tomorrow" call, you show that you are eager, prepared and value the opportunity.

#4 Know where the Office is.  Get directions to your interview location online or through a polite inquiry when you call to confirm the interview date and time. If directions confuse or you don't know the area, best take time to go to the area and locate the company office.

Get a feel how the traffic/commuting situation is like from your residence to the office, so that you can estimate the travel time. On the day of your interview, you shouldn't be lost or be late.

#5 Take care of personal hygiene. Make sure you appear clean and fresh. For men, your hair must well-combed and are clean-shaven. For women, wear light makeup and powder, do up your hair nice.

#6 Dress for the Role. If you want the job, you have to look you deserve it. Clothes make the job. Find out what kind of culture and work environment the company has. One way of doing  this is when you go and visit the company premises to get an idea of its location, you can wait and observe the company’s employees as they head out for lunch.  Then dress appropriately, on a higher level. Present yourself as a professional, which can be a good impression on you.

#7 Don't be just punctual, be early. Do not be late. Arrive early to show you are responsible, conscientious and appreciative of the opportunity. Employers look for applicants who would perform, above and beyond as employees.

#8 Switch off/Silent your Cell Phone. Never have your phone ring or sound off during an interview. This distraction can often give you a unfavorable impression and indicates carelessness..

#9 Watch Your Body language. Move properly, modestly. Sit attentively. Give each interviewer a solid handshake, make good eye contact when asking or answering, and not fiddle or fidget.

How your body behaves give very important clues to an interviewer on how you are as a person so do your best  in talking and acting composed and confident.

#10 Be cheerful.  During the interview, stay positive about yourself and your prospects in answering questions.

One of the usual questions would be about difficult situations and people you've worked with before at your previous employment. There are past jobs, projects, coworkers and bosses that leave one hurt but now is not the  time to dwell on that.

Be positive taking about those situations and highlight your efforts in making the best out of those kinds of situations and share what beneficial lessons you've learned that made you grow as a professional, and as a person.

Other questions to watch out for are "What is your greatest weakness?," "Why do you want to work here?," and "How does your current skill set fit with this position?" Prepare yourself to answer these and any other relevant questions in a positive way that shows you as a promising pleasant person to work with.
